Grey magics are meant to be defensive but this fact does not necessarily mean that their line of DDs should be completely useless. As it is now, not only are they terrible damage-wise but just the cost to cast them is not worth it. For proof, here is the line of epic OPD Grey DDs
- Impune r1
1-4
- Impune r2
2-7
- Impune r3
3-11
- Impune r4
4-15
- Impune r5
6-20
- Impune r6
8-27
- Impune r7
13-46
- Impune r8
17-58
- Impune r9
25-87
- Impune r10
34-116
- Impune r11
54-189
- Impune r12
74-258
- Impune r13
122-393
- Impune r14
144-505
Just look at it!!!

Jk, but seriously. These are epic and OPD (one use per draw). The last one is 99 and its a
caster DD gem that requires Int to boot. Its damage is
dangerously close to a non-caster's. Some might even call them useless... but that's where my idea comes in.
Why not give these Grey DD's a special, secondary ability?
My suggestion is aura damaging.
Reasons:
- First, apoc is too impractical of a gem to be used by... well, anybody.
- Second, there is no flexible way to forcibly remove a person's gem from play and its entirely dependent on the wielder. This would add a whole new dimension to pvp.
- Third, and most importantly (for me, anyways) anti magic aura counter.
- Fourth, I don't know anybody who use Grey DDs.
In terms of balance:
- Casters are specialists when it comes to gems so its only natural that they wield some control over it.
- There is no balance from a casters' POV. PVP is hopeless end-game.
- Casters sacrifice DPS for this special ability.
For simplicity, perhaps this should only affect auras like flare up, sloth, gem haste, and those anti magicks. Some exclusions apply. Higher level auras have more "hp" and can take more of a beating.
All feedback is welcome.
