Default Automated Arena fighters

right, this is a bit radical so plz read.

i am a lvl 67 player, and i tend to group with reasonabley strong arena teams. the only problem is that 80% of the time we get paired with players with an extra 500 rating on us, which means they are probs the next nearest team to our rating (40 atm)

anyway, this doesnt look like its going to change, which is a big shame because the arena is an awesome addition to the game. so here is my suggestion:

new automated (scripted) fighters (just for ease i shall call them bots)
for each 50 rating interval there should be these bots, which would fight basically like normal mobs, but using player equipment.

of course jeff will probs have to put a bit of research into how strong each bot should be, but many more ppl would end up fighting in the arena's and make the arena a bigger success.
also these bots could be placed offline when there is sufficient players currently activly fighting

anyway, just consider it :P

Not a bad idea although then it would be just like fighting mobs. This arena is supposed to be a player vs. player add on.

One of the major drawbacks with the arena is the team system. If it was a simple pick up and fight scenario, a lot more people would get involved (kind of like a pick up basketball game --- just put on your game shorts and call next). As it is now, it is necessary to coordinate schedules and form a team which the majority of gamers will find it difficult to do. If you kick someone from your group, you lose 1/3rd of your team's rating.

(There have been many times where I have wanted to fight in the arena but could not do so because one of my group members was not online).

The other major problem is the lack of a bracket system. It is fun to fight when your team has a chance of winning --- no matter how remote. A lot of players are turned away by the lack of a bracket system. We can talk about whether a bracket system is needed or not, and there would be people that are hellbent against it, but this is the truth: many players just keep away (even after they have given arenas a shot) because of the lack of a bracket system. Getting stomped by high level whippers or casters is no fun after a while.

[Not everyone is masochistic].

Anyways ... whats the point [I just wish it works out for the best since it is a great addition to the game ]

Cheers

hehe, yeah it would just be like fighting mobs, but it would also be kinda like playing other players... coz the only diff is there is a person on the other end who can actually think up a diff tactic everytime. the thing is with this it would always have enough ppl (bots) in the que for ppl to fight and do so quickly, but it would work much better if players with ratings <100 dont get paired with any1 with ratins of >500

That is what i thought when i first read this. Also i have noticed decent amount of bad capped players (ones who hit cap recently). And a good level 67 should be able to kill them.

But if we do Arena just for fighting purposes instead of fighting each other then we will have another easy form of killing mobs and this game will continue to be a PvE only game.

Arena isn't all that great until it gives rewards anyway. Tempers give a health boost and that is great and all but how does that make me get stronger PvE?

i essentially disagree with you.

if more of the lower lvled people joined the que then they would fight each other more often and they would have a better chance of winning as they would be fighting their own lvls more often, and yes still fighting high lvled groups aswell sometimes.

if people are staying away from the arena cause of no brackets then they are in essence creating a self fulfilling prophecy.

like i said in the post, this would only be in act when the arena was low on fighters, and whose saying the bot fighters would be easy? i estimate there is about 100 teams of fighters atm, lets say they use there 1/2/3 hours rt, chances are there not gonna hang around for several hours for arena (with some exceptions) say each team is active for an hour a day, that equates to about 4 teams active every hour, i know this is often several above that but definately does not give an adequate supply of fair matchs, especially when most of the teams are at cap. this idea would just make the idea of every1 using the arena a more likely reality, and wats the worst that could happen? surely if implemented and it doesnt work out it can be removed, granted a bit of extra code work for jeff but life is about trial and error. there essentially is no way players/jeff could loose out on it long term

That is the smartest thing i have heard in a long time. Glad to see you not blindly agree with others like other threads.

Exactly my point. People do create this self fulfilling prophecy. Nodiatis has a relatively small community. A small community means that there will be fewer people in arenas to begin with (when compared to the massive pvp venues in some other mmo's). Already, the arena is dead at certain hours and you keep going against the same players over and over again.

This means that the team of level 80 capped players will run into the team of low level players quite often. Combine that with the fact that dropping a player reduces team rating by 1/3rd and high level teams can easily have and do have low ratings. After a while, level 20ish players, for instance, will be discouraged and will just give up.

It is fun to play when your team has a chance to win ... you keep coming back and trying different strategies. You get to brag, rivalries develop, girlfriends get impressed and stop nagging for a while and life in general takes a turn for the better etc etc. On the other hand, when you know that you are going to lose, getting your behind handed to you is fun for only so long. Eventually it just becomes a repetitive beat down fest and you give up.

Problems with the arena as I see them:

(1)
small community so fewer people present at any given time in the arena.
[not necessarily something that can be changed but the goal should be to get everyone who is available involved in the fighting].

(2)
unnecessary hindrances to being able to fight in the arena discourages people

- 25k to make a team
- the entire team thing ... if people could just start fighting whenever they wanted it would work much better as no scheduling or coordination would be involved and one could just pick up a fun arcade fight when out of rt/rrt.
- steep rating loss

(3)
lack of brackets does discourage some people like I said before.

(4)
a lack of rewards: off course there are tempers and then the winning team (which will offcourse be a team of capped players) is promised some rewards but what about everyone else ... what are they fighting for. Some shiny new weapons (only available to bracket winners) or item drops or something of that sort would attract a lot more people.

The way I see it, it should be easy to pick up an arena fight ... a level 1 should be able to do it at the push of a button --- complications just keep people away. And there should be rewards to go around.

clearly you dont know much, and you disguise this fact with extremely long posts.

a few things in response:

1) the "small community" is great for this game. it means that most people know each other, the admin have less to handle with players and can work more on dealing with game mechanics. it also means they have more time to read the forum and respond to ideas and suggestions and even fix bugs instantly. (or close to)

the fact that not alot of people play this is, IMHO, 1 of the best features of the game. sure more people playing means at times better game play and what not, but its not guaranteed, and it wont always work that way.

2)
- if it is dificult for you to make 25k then just /wrists now. i can sell approx 110 trophies, or even just grind for 3 hours, to make that 25k. its not a hindrance at all.
- the team thing is what makes this work. if it was 1 on 1, or just a click of a button it would be the exact same as dueling, which we all have already.
- you only lose a little bit of your rating if you have a high 1 to begin with, and your team goes inactive. and i believe if you lose at higher rating lvls. (not sure though)

3) brackets are not needed, nor do i believe they ever will be.

4) who is to say in the future there wont be rewards?? just because at this point in time there are none, when keep in mind the whole arena is still new, does not mean it will never happen. Take Heroic Mode for example. currently it gives epics faster and thats it. In the future it will be the only way for Legendary Items to drop. it currently also allows you to get higher tiers of resources.

The arena is based for 20+ to start a team, and therefor should have no effect on a lvl 1 at all.

Complications can draw people in actually. i would prefer to participate in something that requires my involvement and the use of some thought process instead of mindly clicking buttons at random.

And lastly the capped team will not always win at all. i have had on my team myself at lvl 66, a lvl 60 and a lvl 58 player and i have beaten teams of 3 lvl 80 players, aswell as numerous other teams of higher lvled players. when you assume that the capped players will win for sure, then there is a high chance that they will in fact win.

I honestly believe that there is nothing wrong with the arena and the only reason i dont go in there more is cause of my PoS computer not being able to handle it well, and the fact that i would like to use the rrt i accumulate.

also paster, thank you. i generally dont go off what others say and i do like to make up my own mind of things. those that believe i follow people around and spout what they have to say are not only sadly mistaken but are generally ****ing retarded.

I never said that a small community does not give some benefits. I was talking about how a small community could mean that fewer people are present in the arena especially at certain times of the day.

2)

25k is not difficult for me to make. But it is difficult for some low level N's to make. A new player to the game might stick around and even spend money because he likes the arena system but what happens when he can't make a team because he does not have 25k.

Sure. I was not advocating 1 on 1 combat in the arena. I was thinking along the lines of a second form of team where the computer just pairs up 3 people who want to fight randomly. There can be those teams that people pick and chose and then for the people that want to fight but lack teams, they could just queue themselves and the computer assigns them to a team when enough single players become available. Just a thought again. Simplifying the entry process would encourage more people to participate.

You lose 1/3rd of your rating when you drop a member.

3) brackets are not needed, nor do i believe they ever will be.

Ok. You can believe whatever you want.

4) who is to say in the future there wont be rewards?? just because at this point in time there are none, when keep in mind the whole arena is still new, does not mean it will never happen. Yes there might be rewards in the future. I was not talking about the future however. I was talking about now. In other words, I was saying that giving rewards will encourage more people to participate.

The arena is based for 20+ to start a team, and therefor should have no effect on a lvl 1 at all.

Complications can draw people in actually. i would prefer to participate in something that requires my involvement and the use of some thought process instead of mindly clicking buttons at random.

Complications in the actual fighting itself are welcome. I was talking about complications when trying to be able to get into the arena --- complications like one guy on your team is not logged on or has exams or died in an automobile accident etc etc.

True. Capped team will not always win. But then again, the best level 34 is not as good as the worst level 80.

I honestly believe that there is nothing wrong with the arena and the only reason i dont go in there more is cause of my PoS computer not being able to handle it well, and the fact that i would like to use the rrt i accumulate.

It could be improved in some respects... there is always room for improvements and I was trying to suggest some ways to improve it by pointing out the problems as I percieved them. You are free to give your point of view as well. Your vote cancels mine if you disagree with me.

also paster, thank you. i generally dont go off what others say and i do like to make up my own mind of things. those that believe i follow people around and spout what they have to say are not only sadly mistaken but are generally ****ing retarded.
I don't want to argue and flame. It is pointless. So leave me alone.

I was just pointing out what I felt the problems were and a few ways in which they could be dealt with. That is the whole idea behind this section of the forums.

Respect, I giveth and i shall taketh away.

Learn 2 r34d pl0x!!!!111onetwothreefourfive

http://forums.nodiatis.com/forums/ga...v3-arenas.html

Apparently you didnt read this, even though it recieved 1.4k+ views and seeing as how Nodiatis is played by a very, very, very small player base you should have seen it multiple times. Seasons end in 2-3 months and in later ones people will be awarded....
SPECIAL WEAPONS
SPECIAL ARMOR
SPECIAL GEMS

So yes no good awards yet but there will be. Hopefully the staff gets on top of things and implements that sheet before THIS season ends.

Also i strongly agree with no brackets. So you are a good level 20 or level 40 or whatever. Thats Great!!! Although hundreds of other chars can stomp the sh!t out of you. You shouldnt be rewarded imo for being the best when its easy and for being the 400th best. I am not frowning on the accomplishments of our lower level players but most of us can do it and better in half the time and most of us have. Having the best level 50 is 100 times easier than having a great capped player.

And in response to Smash. Np but people think you agree blindly is because you post "I agree" or "Agreed". That is bull**** and i will tell you why. You aren't showing any signs of you reading it or even telling why you agree. I am not saying you don't read the threads just saying you arent expressing your opinions and like i said blindly agreeing/supporting.

hehe i think u guys are going off topic, im not disputing the incentives to fight, nor the system, but purely the lack of teams and variation of teams.

im a decent lvl 68, and i group with a variety of other players, but i find my self atm not even bothering to fight in the arena unless 2 capped players from my clan need a 3rd, coz there tends to bemaybe 1/2 teams of lower lvl compared to about 6 teams of caps

anyway, i'd like to duel smashbros some time, he's around my lvl :P
