Default Gem Synergy

Ok it was posted that eventually we will be able to see our group mates' gems in play (I'm imagining this will look like another set of play slots set off to each side).

This got me to thinking...what if certain gems could interact synergistically with one another? Like say a person in my group puts a DD in play but doesn't yet cast it. Then I put a DD in play and it synergizes with that of my group member (the squares of each gem start blinking a certain color to indicate they are reacting with each other). After they start blinking like this, we can both cast them and it will create a new effect, perhaps a more powerful effect than each alone would create or perhaps an entirely different effect altogether.

I realize something like this would be incredibly complicated to implement and if it ever was it would be far down the road, but I'm throwing it out there cuz I think it'd be super cool.

Maybe the long-sought-after "group skills" could revolve around the synergistic effect of gems?

Oooh, this is an excellent idea. You can have Auras that interact with each other, Heals that chain together and heal everyone, spells that share damage between party members who each have a certain gem out...

You could have a big spell that takes 3 different gems to cast, but lets party members use each other's gems for it, so you can plan out your spells and wind up big damage together.

There's so many different things you could do with gems that interact with the gems your party members or opponents use. Great idea, hah.

on common, you don't see any similarity from your suggestion to phantasy star?

all thats missing is making the game turned based.
