when cap goes to 80, all you need to do is farm a 90+ zone when you are due for an epic. get your epic recipe, which is the best you can get anyway. i know it sucks that they wont be craftable for a while, but better than getting a 88 shield recipe or w/e.

after your recipe, next time you are due for an epic, farm in the epic zone of your choice thats below 90, and you are guaranteed a non-recipe drop (not sure if this applies to gems as well)

just go back and forth between areas, and you will never get an epic recipe drop below 90. i realize this is obvious to some, but not to all, which is why im posting this
