Default Archery question

Hi what does cnc and int determine? they both say determine chance to deal full damage but...

A friend told me they were different.

int was how high you can hit?
cnc how far you hit on average?

Does anyone know for sure? And glitchless, I'd greatly appreciate a formal response.

I was under the impression they both have the same effect since the description is the same...so +10 points in CNC is the same as +10 points in INT.

or INT: 143 CNC: 157 is the same as INT: 50 CNC: 250

As a bow user if you do not use DD gems then CNC would be the only stat you need to raise.

dex is used to determine your chances of hitting and CNC/INT determine your chances of hitting for full damage.

yea most of the descriptions are vague....

Lets say you are a lvl 42 char...your cnc/int total is 170 (low for that level)
The max damage of your bow/arrow set is say 200hp. you are fighting a lvl 45 mob. Most of the time you will be hitting for around 100hp. (these are very rough estimates)

Lets say you are a lvl 42 char...your cnc/int total is 450 (above average for that level)
Same max damage as above. also fighting a lvl 45 mob. Most of the time you will be hitting for 200+ hp.

^.^ if what my friend told me were true, i'd gladly sacrifice variation for a higher mean. This complicates things a little because my next armor set has -int but o well. :S

EDIT: ty for your feedback rich

Most things I've read would indicate your friend is wrong.

It would seem that INT and CNC are added together and then that total has an effect on how much damage you do just like the single stat STR has an effect on melee max damage.

There are things in the game that seem to effect max, min, and "mean" separately, I'm almost positive this isn't one of those cases.

Pretty sure they both effect "how often you do max damage" together, equally. (Which is essentially moving your mean toward the max and beyond)

The end result of this is that you can focus on one, the other, or both. It doesn't matter for archery itself.

PS
I know this is what you were saying too Rich, but I thought I'd re-emphasize in light of the last post.

Int and Cnc balance out and both help deal full damage with arrows. I see alot of people go all Cnc so its gotta work.

now for my half-baked comment. I've been told it is (Int + Cnc)/2 ... or... your average between Int and Cnc that determines your max damage. and if you are using HoT or DoT gems then nothing into Int and everything into Cnc is the way to go... its the way I've been going and will continue until told otherwise...

hope it helps

yes all cnc is the popular build but if someone was to go with DD gems instead of DoT gems it would be best for them not to ignore putting points into INT.

Rich is right. I've got an archer who uses DoT's, and has full CNC. If the archer were using DD's it would be split evenly between CNC and INT.

If you level magic up don't use the stats and then close it, read what it says on each one, this should answer your question.
