Darkness Event

Some creatures have become Elite, dark version of themselves, corrupted by this new plague. They now use black or red magic. This event’s creatures vary in abilities, some mobs have the same HP as their normal cousins but hit VERY hard, some use much more magic and have extra HP, some use pierce and have small hits but hit lightning fast and accurately (making aura of thorns and reflection finally useful), some use archery with tri and/or flameshot, or some even dodge or kite, etc.

The event would go like this, you click your square to attack normally and every now and then you encounter a dark monster (bonus to Paladins and Clerics on find chance?). A box pops up and says, “You have sensed Corruption in the area. Do you wish to cleanse it?” Click Yes or No. By clicking No, you start combat as normal nothing else happens. If you click Yes, you get the new Elite version with new art, fight a much tougher opponent and reap the benefits of additional XP and stronger versions of equipment drops, new runes or gems (as drops!), and perhaps a special “event only” loot. The creatures should be called “Dark” whatever according to their name (i.e. Dark Sandsnake), that way the creature would still count for quests. Trophies would have to remain the same for this reason as well.

As an additional idea, perhaps every time you kill a Dark creature, you get event points towards a leader board and final points leaders get a boon of some sort (TCs?).

The culmination of the event could be a raid type boss that would require many high level attackers at once to kill it. Or Maybe instead of 3 in group Jeff could add players up the sides and on top of screen and have groups of 8 and scale the boss to the level of the region he is in? Resurrect and taunt gems would be great in this scenario. Another possibility is a Global boss that anyone can attack at anytime and he has a hidden amount of HP, the person that kills him gets a Unique Epic. There would be a lot of dying to a boss like this, so no loss of RT on death would have to be considered (like pvp?). Maybe he just sends you back to town and you have to travel back to his location, limiting your chance of the killing blow? All of these are just ideas.

It would be awesome if there were permanent changes to Nod, based on what the players do in the end. If they totally obliterate the Darkness, perhaps a few squares become Shrines, so you can turn in trophies out in the field (Pet Forest would be a good spot). If the players don’t fair so well, maybe a few squares become blackened and impassable or maybe going through them gives a temporary minus to stats. Or maybe a Death Magic only shrine?? Another thought on the shrines, maybe they give an additional XP bonus, making it beneficial to track out to the far reaches to get more XP out of your normal trophies.

Could have done brand new art, but didn't want to invest that kind of time for a silly idea. The idea was that they are the same creature just ... corrupted by some kind of new evil.

But it certainly could have been original art. Jeff?

Absolutely great idea! and the art is beautiful!

I would love to see of such things in game implemented, as I was greatly surprised when lvl 45 elite gorilla appeared in the area of lvl 37-38 or even around town.

maybe the boss could be like a dark dragon and its master just made out of pure dark magic and used only the most forbidin and darkest magic and it had a dark and eeire aura around it and had ridicoulous atacke power and its atacke could be a dark flame and it would have some serious defense
