Default Epic Item forces you to pay

Jeff?

If you read this, let me tell you I love your game, and I paid 19.99 for the intial fee, and 29.99 (or 39.99) for an upgrade. I would have gladly kept playing, but I received a random epic item after a battle.

I was excited to get it, but then lo and behold, I was forced to pay to sell it, use it, hell I had to pay $$ to MOVE the item. I would have put it up for sale at a discounted price, but then the solicitation came.

What really frustrates me is that I LOVE playing the game, chatting with people... it is so my style of MMO RPG... but because of the unwanton solicitation, I am forced on principle not play anymore.

I do not expect a refund for the $$ I paid... I had a lot of fun, and all of it was cheaper than going to a bar on a Saturday night... but I did want to convey my level of dismay, and how turned off I was.

I met some pretty neat people on your game... Ferrec and Flippy were really down to earth and cool... but for me, I don't need to be sold to. I bought after playing for about 20 minutes... I knew I liked the game... I knew I wanted the upgrade... I didn't need a reminder that I should keep feeding you $$. The game didn't need to come to me.

I know you are trying to run a business, and I'm sure people like me walk away all the time... and well, that's just business. You can't please all the people all the time.

Very disappointed and frankly kind of sad.

The majority of MMO's are moving toward a micropayment for gear system. Nodiatis at least let's you pay for permanent account upgrades, virtues, that let you use the items epic items and also give you other innate experience benefits. Once you own all the virtues you never need to worry about it again. In contrast the new trend is to sell credits to players which they then trade in directly for high end gear which is far more reprehensible. We refuse to sell items or gold to players - we make them play the game for that.

Consider a person with a standard Nodiatis account has 2 hours of rested time per day and will likely play a bit over that. If they play 2.5 hours per day that would be 75 hours a month for 5 dollars or 7 cents per hour. It is not surprising that we offer other methods of permanent account upgrading.

Like I said, you are familiar with the business more than I am. I am just telling you that as a paying customer that paid twice for the initial fee and an upgrade, I was very turned off by the surprise solicitation.

If I had the option to purchase them in a store, then I would have been fine with it... but it appears you are tricking us with the "randomness" of an epic, when it appears you are just asking for money.

Anyway... you run your business the way you want. I was turned off, and now I won't pay any more. It happens. I speak to customers all day who don't like our product because of some aspect of the business. We don't change the business because of one or two complaints. If you get enough complaints and it affects your bottom line, you will change... but until then you run your model as you want.

This is a great game, and if you do it right you don't ever have to pay a real cent. Although it may take a bit to build up to that I can't think of any other games at this calibre that will let you do that!

Thats my cent...

The game has lost one of my favorite people...

Ursiris, while I don't necessarily agree with your position, I respect your ability to discuss it here without attack, whining or being defensive. Just one more of the 765 reasons I wish you would come back. In honesty, you are one of the most interesting people I have ever met, online or off, and I miss you tremendously.

With hand over heart, I tip my hat in thanks for the good times, I know we all do.

*boings sadly*
