Default Gem Ideas

What if there were gems that required multiple skills in magic, like this:

Serpentine Caress Rank 3
Enemy target is poisoned, taking 18 damage over 40 seconds.
Color: Green and Black
Mana Cost: 13 Energy Cost: 5
Prereq: Green Magic (10), Black Magic (10)

Magic Missile Rank 2
Direct damage of 3 to 8 damage to an enemy target
Color: Red and Blue
Mana Cost: 10 Energy Cost: 2
Prereq: Blue Magic (5), Red Magic (5)

I just want to see if something like this would be a good idea. Also, if you want to make comments on how good (or bad) these gems are, feel free to do so.

How would gem bonuses work?
Because full bonus to each color of the gem would be OP.

I don't want to have grinding time be completely wasted, but I do realize that having full bonus would be OP. What about 2^-2 bonus, or root(1/2)? Because having the bonus be 1/2 would be a waste of gem slots and grinding time.

I also tried to have the gems be a middle ground between the two colored effects it represents. The blue/red gem I had basically went for a middle ground between red direct damage and blue direct damage, the sheer potential power of the red gem and the consistency of the blue one.

So how about a sliding scale?

Total bonuses for each multiplied by 66%?
