I would suggest day last a real hour and night last a real hour, that way players would generally have the chance to play in each if they wanted.
Or if a player specialized in day or night skills they could find non-AT activities to do during the time frame that opposed them.

I fail to see how people living in different time zones would have anything to do with the in-game progression of a 1 hour day/1 hour night cycle.

As mentioned above, it doesn't need to be a 24 hour time cycle. A 2 hour day would work just fine.
There could be plenty of differences between day and night, such as different monster appearances (which would really only make a difference by what trophies they drop), different materials gathered with trade skills, maybe even restricting certain bosses to only appearing during one time or the other.

from what i read it should be possible for all to experience day and night if it changes between the 2 ingame every 1-2 hours

Camli has the right idea with all her examples and with the small time frame of day/night change.

it could make the game a lot more challengeing and fun if it had day/night cycle with day and night specific events which means you would need to plan ahead somtimes

i don't know if you're aware of this, but post beta free accounts only get 1 hour of AT to start with.
put up a poll anyway, im gonna vote no, not the best idea you've had so far.

A valid point, but since the day/night cycle would exist in real time, it wouldn't be terribly difficult for a free player to simply wait until the appropriate time to get something done.
Honestly, I think the idea isn't so much a "You can only go here at night, this super important thing only happens during the day."
It's really more of a "Ember Moths only come out during the day - If you go to the Ashen Trail at night, you'll see Tinder Flies, which have about the same stats, but drop 100% combat trophies instead of 100% spirit." or "The <something> plant only blossoms in the moonlight, so you can only gather it at night (for when tradeskills are implemented :P ).
Or hey, shorten the cycle even further, half hour day, half hour night.
Or make it a full day of night, full day of sun -- Each reset moves the world forward a half day.
There's plenty of ways to make it work around the 1 hour AT that free accounts get.

seems nuts tbh

I think it's a brilliant idea. There could be lots of differences between what you may encounter/hunt/gather during a day and during a night. I don't think the idea of finding different trophies (combat/spirit) depending from when you play is a good idea, though (unless the cycle lasted 48 hours - 24 hours day/24 hours night).
And don't tell me you're using all your RT in one hour. It takes me way more to use mine. Not that RT is any problem here.
I think it's worth being implemented in the future. It's not a first priority, though.

I to would have to vote NO, cause I never know for sure when I will be able to get on, and if I only have a few minutes in a day, and I log on only to find out that I can't do jack ****, I would be pissed.

One of the ideas, as you might have noticed, is that every day would last 24 hours (same for every night). Well, if you're logging in every second day, that would be a problem indeed. Even if someone plays once a week (let's say, on every Saturday,) it still wouldn't be a problem.

I would put in a "Maybe" on this one. It would make more sense, in the context of the game, for some classes (vampires, dark knights, necromancers) to be more powerful at night, and weaker during the day. On ther other hand, it would take a hell of a lot of coding to make it work right, as well as to balance the other player classes.

Agreed, it may take much time. Features such as new class bonuses (as you mentioned) could be added, but not necessarily. They'd make things more reasonable and would improve the quality of the game.
So, I think the day/night cycle feature could be added some day, but there are other priorities now.
I'd give it a "Yes but not yet."
