Default Why some people deserve more than others

I've seen a new counterargument to the 'fix' that has me really scratching my head and wondering what people have come to. The central point, I would think to ANY game played by more than one person SHOULD be that at least an effort should be made to make it FAIR. I know, it's amazing. You'd think all rules should be set up to favor one person's preferences and encourage an ability to find the loopholes or design errors in a system and jump on the bandwagon of exploiting it for all it is worth. If anyone wants to play the game in any different way, they are just chumps.

With that in mind, let's look at some of the best arguments that come up EVERY time someone argues that someone tries to logically advocate the blance of the game should be looked at.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, REROLL - Although the mechanic of this game is that of a clickfest, there's a reason there's a princess, and magic, and castles. Some people like pretending to Legolas. Some people like pretending to be Gandalf, or Saruman. I don't know many who want to pretend to be an accountant who has worked with the books and found the most efficient allocation of the returns from clicking and moving a mouse around.

IT'S BEEN UNFAIR FOR SO LONG, IT SHOULD JUST BE A GAME FEATURE - Really? Is this really saying that if something is unjust for long enough, it just shouldn't be considered wrong AT ALL. I'm sorry if the skill descriptions made things look like they were fair and balanced, but you really should have tried taking the time to try out all the skills just to make sure they were doing what they said they did before deciding to trust that they worked.

Let's think about that from a historical perspective. Women weren't allowed to vote in the US until 1920. Not very fair, but hey, that's 140 years. Instead of making things fair, after all that time, giving men a bonus other 'players' didn't have should just be a feature. We won't even get into the 'game imbalance' 87 years of slavery represented, although I imagine plantation owners 'invested' a lot in their 'gear' as well. At least the fix let you keep the gear your advantages paid for that others couldn't afford.

But you know, we live in a world now where fairness is about what you feel entitled to, not what anyone else deserves.

Flame on.

I see where you're coming from but your comparison is way off the mark. Glitch has consistently stated that classes were balanced. BMs just lost a lot of DPS and a lot of heals. That has to affect the balance.

BM is (ahem, was) so popular because it's easy. You can afk farm and survive, heal fast, repeat. But they're not the all-out killing machines that people seem to think. I still run auras all fight every fight, I move and click gems constantly. And I need to keep my def up cos I can't just put on timmies and regen away like a crusher or slasher can.

BMs are the Corolla of Nod. Not a Ferrari, not a half-ton truck. Horses for courses and all that. This is just a nice opportunity for Nodders who don't like how expensive their insurance is or how much gas they use to gripe.

I disagree. I've played Nemesis Knight from the beginning as a whipper. So, that toon has benefited from the broken skill. I have also run an archer with whips and without whips. And a caster with 800+ CNC and maxed magic skills.

All have 50B+ Xp. almost all 100 in their used skills. All have LG equipment. There is a HUGE difference in trophy collection, gold collection, survivability. Almost every metric. Before the fix, I used a sword on Katsumajr just to see how big an ambush I could get, but if a mob fight started to go badly, I'd take off the sword, equip a pair of whips and it was a joke. Post fix, kill speed and survivability on Katsumajr is nearly identical whether I fight with the whips or with the sword.

But, I could be wrong. Let's hear from some of the people that were disappointed with playing a BM and rerolled to another class. I've seen several that were something else and rerolled BM and said how much better it was. I'm guessing there are just as many that stopped being BM and found something better.

I have to agree with you Nem. All that has happened is that the balance in Nod has been restored.
Much like you, I've been playing whipper since I got here. March 2009 for me. IOn that time, we've seen epic 81 slashers being top dog, followed by 89 crushers. Then DD casters ruled the roost. Only since then have BMs come to the fore.

It's been obvious for a long time that BM/whipper was the strongest overall toon. We all knew it. That's why so many people re-rolled to BM, or just re-equipped to whipper. We just didn't realise it was due to a bug.

I've been nerfed by this patch. Roeth is a moderately well LG-equipped and skilled BM. But I'm not complaining about this patch. It was needed.

May build variety resume !

I'm a proud whipper and will continue to whip regardless of any changes, because I'm lazy.

I switched builds and am constantly trying new things. And am constantly rerolling. My current build is a doublecast archer, it was a double cast melee until AD came out. But as it stands since the fix, Archer whip users is extremely underpowered now. (It used to be one of the strongest) I believe that the delay with ranged attacks with whips should be taken off.
