Had some RRT stored and thought Id run a test on whether this skill actually was of use to me. I levelled it to 99 (sorry wont go to 100, its been about 8 months since I got travel exp, got to make it last

) and headed off to redwood.
Long story short, 15 hours RRT gone...no silk drop! Hmm, I thought, something must be wrong here, surely I would have gotten a silk drop by now. I means that's over 2 days worth of RRT!
Not being a maths wiz like others, I'm hesitant to crunch numbers, but I was curious as to when I could expect my 1st 'silk drop'. Now at first I thought back and wondered how many silk drops do I normally get per daily RRT. I thought maybe 5 (although I only ever kept t8s and above). I ran some numbers on that, I'm not going to post results cause frankly they are just too depressing. Anyway after asking clan chat, I discovered opinions varied. Some said they didn't get that many, others claimed to get 20 per day off daily RRT. I'm pretty sure I don't get 20, but, like I said, I don't really pay that much attention to anything under t8s. I farm either Fungi or redwood so I guess perhaps if I farmed n.lake or DMV perhaps I would get more (quicker fights). So lets take the best case scenario here. Lets say I get 20 silk drops from 4.5 (or so) hours of RRT.
For me there is one way I look at this (like I said no maths wiz here). With ST at 100, I get 300 less rolls of the dice when it comes to a silk drop. That is, instead of the dice being a 30 sided dice (1tier-30tier), it becomes a 20 sided dice (tier 10-tier30). I know different tiers are weighted also, so you have less chance of a rare than you do an uncommon. You are always going to be more likey to get an uncommon than a rare (someone out there would know the figures on this).
So, as Glitch has explained, the skill is not for everyone. Have to agree, but I sit here thinking to myself, 'just who is it for'? Based on a basic linear number roll if you normally got 20 drops a day, at 300x slower, it works out that you would get 2 silk drops a month. Keep in mind that rares are...surprisingly rarer than uncommon, then you would have to say (really dont know figures here, but lets assume) your going to get uncommons 75% of the time.
To a layman here it looks like you can expect 1 rare drop to 3 uncommon drops, which in turn means you can get your rare (t21-30) once every 2 months.
So who is this skill for?
A: A person who is looking for rare silks?
Obviously not, since rolling the dice 300 times more gives you far better odds. Even though I dont have exact figures here, I do know that I uptier and sell t30s to the silk and thread starved crafters out there. I get upto t28 rare silks in fungi.
B: A person who hates silks and loathes destroying them constantly?
I know there are a couple out there that fit this, that's fine, but wouldn't of a toggle in the 'autoloot' button where you can turn off silk drops (and runes as well while your at it) been simpler?
So who is this skill for?
If your going to make the silks so rare (assuming 67 hours between drops), then please make them t20 and over. If your going to make us wait that long, please don't discourage us by giving us a t10 drop, that would be horrible. Otherwise reduce the 300 to something more realistic. I would suggest x 100. Based on a (rather high I believe) silk drop of 20 a day, this would mean you only had to wait 5 days for a silk drop instead of 15. It would still suck that you waited 5 days to get a T10, but it might mean its actually worth levelling as opposed to leaving it at 0. I've spoken to a crafter who has all the mats to make lgs, except the silk/thread. That's kinda sad since collecting silks is an effortless task that is typically a by-product of trophy farming.
Sorry for the lack of 'hard data' here and I know I might very well be trolled for 'not having any idea', but I dont care. If I have it all wrong, please clear it up. All I know is that Ive used 15hours RRT and no silk drop (with a potentially 50 more to go before I do).
Thanks
