Default Auction House Sorting

Okay, as promised, posted on the forums.

As this game is becoming more popular everyday, it is apparent we will need an auction house sorting method, as it is time consuming and eye straining to find the items you are looking for.

I propose a sorting method of the following.

First, have an entry page that says something like "Nodiatis Auction House" at the top of the screen... then the following clickable Links below it in the middle.

Weapons
Armor
Tools
Resource Materials
Trophies
Timecards

Next, a sorting system like the vendors, only not.

'Weapons' has the following subcategories:
Piercing, Slashing, Crushing, Epic

Whichever sub link you click, have them show up organized in order of level requirements from least to greatest. I.e. slashing (1) to (95). Still keep the same method for discerning which items are usable, and which are not, and which are at your location, and which are not.

Obviously Epics will be looked at a little more carefully, so differentiating from the different weapon types will not be needed, at least for right now. Just have them separate from the others
----------

Armor has the following subcategories:
Normal, Epic.

Again, organize from least to greatest in level requirement. Still keep the same method for discerning which items are usable, and which are not, and which are at your location, and which are not.
---------

Tools does not need any subcategories, but just a little organization.

Order the tools appearing in order starting with t1... Castille, Stronhad, Fenila, Atlimus, etc. and going up through the recommended levels for towns. Instantaneously you will be able to see which tools are available for purchase in the area you are currently in, and which town you need to go travel to for the others.
----------

Resource Materials will have the following subcategories

Thread, Cloth, Wood, Lumber, Foraging, Dyes, Ores, Geodes, Pelts, Leathers, Oil, Trapping, Garden, Seafood, Bookstore (add one if I left one out)

This is going to be a bit of a mess no matter which way you do it, but I kinda think of it as a Home Depot, Ace, or other store... lots of crap, tiny sections for each one.

Obviously, this is the one that will need the closest attention to separation, as the resources are what make it difficult to navigate the auction house now.

I suggest more of the same discussed above, with the level requirement as your guide in each category from least to greatest.
I.e.... in foraging... start with elderberries, then tea leaves, and go up.

Do the same with all sub categories. Still keep the same method for discerning which items are at your location, and which are not.

Right now, this may seem like a LOT of work, but as time marches on, and more and more items get on the auction house, this will be one less headache. Plus adding new trade skill categories will be easy to do in the future, and be all neat and tidy.
---------

Trophies have the following sub categories...

Combat, Spirit

Organize by sacrifice value in each category. Still keep the same method for discerning which items are usable, and which are not, and which are at your location, and which are not.
----------

Timecards have no subcategories...

Sorted by auction price listing. Same determination system as to which are at your location, and which are not.
--------------

For bonus sorting, you could arrange all the similar items in all categories and sub categories by auction list price from least to greatest. Making shopping a breeze.

*exhales*

bleh... I know that seems like a lot, but it will clean up the auction house greatly, and I think that is a system even Decker would approve of.

i would vastly appreciate some sort of sorting for the auction house. the sooner, the better, i usually spend about 8 minutes at a time, scrolling through AH to see if anything that i actually need is in there. and its a hassle.
i dont know if auction sorting is on jeffs todo list or not. need to hop over there and check it out. if it is, the sooner it is implimented, the better. seeing how there are usually at least 6 pages in auctions at any given time.

I think sorting is on Jeff's list -- I'm not sure about sorting down to the level though. Part of the game, IMO, is trying to find the best deal. Or to sell your armor for twice the amount the other guy has listed. Putting items in the same categories in the same page, though, would be terrific.

Would the ability to sort/filter by location also be helpful?

Yup, I sure did. Well easy enough to add them as a category.. just follow the same lvl, price and type sorting principle as mentioned in the others.

Of course the misc. stuff could be pure price based.

But you get the general idea of sorting. And yes, trying to find the best deal is awesome, but not straining your eyes to do it. I am thinking long term here. I don't know if you have ever played everquest or not, but try imagining sifting through all of the tens of thousands of items that are on auction each day in the current format, even organized into groups... no, sorting by price has to be a factor in certain groups, but not nessecarily all of them.

Imagine it this way... you are sifting through a database for information, and you give the command to list specific types, but you want it to be organized so you alphabetize it by sorting in asc, or ascending order. Same deal with prices. It is simply easier to make the information easier to read, nothing more.

Rigger, it sounds as if you are probably one of those guys that likes to sell to those that don't want to look too carefully through the auctions, and sell a 'deal' to an impulse buyer. To each their own. But if you want to buy low and sell high, the price sorting factor would actually work in your favor more than anything, so long as you could continue buy low in auction, and do the selling out of auction to the impulse buyers. Just a thought for you.

Thank you for noting the oversight style. Glad so far most of you approve of my idea. I hope that something like that is within the range of possibility, because in the long run, Jeff would never have to mess with sorting the auction house again.
