2 of my most favorite chess games
1:
This one was memorable because I won, and I was playing white. The win isn't forced, but if black doesnt accept a draw then white wins.
2:
this one was memorable because I was playing someone who had been playing for like 35+ years, and I blundered horribly in the opening, forcing me to play a Bishop down the entire game. white forfeits on this move.

I wouldn't forfeit if I were white.

white loses the rook next turn guaranteed. its a lost position. white should forfeit. keen judgement comes into play in situations like this, white was correct in resigning

What would be your move? I don't see a way out for white either. White's in implied check with the blk rook at E5.

double post, idgaf. Also the 2nd game is especially memorable because I was playing as black. Any good chess player knows how much of a disadvantage black has in just equalizing; let alone losing the bishop after a mere 17 moves or so.
*edit* since the win in game #1 isnt forced, it would be lame of me to not post the win:
The game continued:
30. Qe8+ Kg7
31. Qe7+ Kh6
[31...Rf7 would have given black a draw and half the point, black loses rapidly after move 31]
32. Qg5+ (forcing the queen exchange trading off blacks best piece and losing the rook in the process)
32...Qxg5
33. hxg5+ Kxg5
34. Rxf3 Kg4
35. Kf2 h5
36. Rd1 h4
37. gxh4 Kxh4
38. d6 g5
39. Rg3 Bd7
40. Rh1 Bh3
41. Rxh3# 1-0

You'd find a way to play a long game from a lost position, and it wouldn't teach you a damn thing. The mark of a truly good chess player, is one who knows when to resign. If I was playing you and you didn't resign on that move, I'd know you're an amateur.

I looked at the position for a long time before giving up and reading your commentary.
Then I saw Kh6. :\
If black really did that, it's a shame. I dislike winning because of stupid moves. Unless it's blitz, I guess.
It is simply a drawn game.
Anyway, what I mean to say is: I will play chess against you, Middington.
And I shall defeat you, just as I did numerous times in Nod.
Anytime, anywhere, anyhow, anything, any... anemic. Whatever other words start with any.

yeah, the game should've drawn, I even offered a draw prior to the first check, black declined. and yes, technically it was a blitz game, time controls were 30/All. i think by the rules of FIDE, any game with time controls under 30 minutes or 15 seconds a move is blitz.

Uh...
I know USCF rules, which was something like 25 min w/ 5 sec delay or simply 29 minutes (less than 1 hour per match) is considered "quick chess."
I don't know about blitz. In official blitz, you can capture the king; I always thought it was 5 min or less (10 min games). I've never played a blitz tourney

USCF is governed by FIDE
if you can capture the king, chess isn't the game you're playing. regardless of the time controls

I would never resign until mate is inevitable. There is always a chance your opponent will make a mistake or overlook a counterattack.

Just repeat for multiple effects.
DO NOT multiply by 1+slow% to get your new delay. 1*1.4 is not the same as 1/0.6 and your answer will be wrong.

Always remember, do not castle if you can, castle if you must.

Huh.
Well, I thought I'd heard that it's legal to capture the king in blitz chess. Guess I was wrong.
But I looked up the rules.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rules_o...EFSchiller2003
http://www.fide.com/fide/handbook.ht...5&view=article
Check this out.
According to FIDe Blitz, you cannot capture the king, since that's illegal.
Duh!
And in regular tournament play, illegal moves must be taken back.
However, in blitz play, the rules aren't the same.
An illegal move is still illegal in blitz, but it is not a requirement that the move be taken back.
If you make an illegal move and hit the clock to start your opponent's timer (like leaving your king in check), your opponent can call you on it, which means an instant loss.
So, even though I cannot straight up "capture your king" without checkmating, I can do the equivalent by enforcing your immediate loss if you do not defend a check, as long as I do not commit the obvious illegal move that would be capturing your king. In that case, I would lose.
However! That last point is interesting!
It means that an illegal move can actually be played in a FIDE blitz game!
As long as your opponent doesn't call you on it (which is an instant loss- so this isn't recommended), you can basically place your pieces anywhere. Like perform tricky illegal knight moves or something.

thats just all kinds of bad advice. I've only ever studied 1 (thats one) grandmaster game where white didnt castle, black did, but white still won.
(thats 1(one) out of 3.7 million games)
