Default Tool Belt Item for Organizing and Consolidating Tools

Hi, everyone,

I have been discussing various ways to improve the user interface with other players, and in terms of organizing items, I would like to suggest an idea.

A "Tool Belt" could be given to all players, or sold for a small fee in gold, perhaps in Castille, which would hold all of a player's resourcing, artistry, and crafting tools, neatly confined to one square.

Players would have the option to place tools on the belt, and take tools off the belt, while keeping off the belt any tools which they don't wish to currently carry. Storage squares could be used for any tools not carried in the belt at any moment.

Such a belt item would weigh as much as the sum of the weight of the tools on it, perhaps with the added weight of the belt itself (whatever that may be). In this way, it would still be difficult to walk around with a Dye Press or Oil Boiler, but they would take up less space.

In terms of crafting or artistry skills, the tools would need to be temporarily and manually removed from the belt via a right-click option, in order to be used for crafting or artistry.

If resourcing tools were added to the belt, they could remain in place, and be available after each instance of combat in various game zones. In this way, players could carry around any/all of their resourcing tools and collect multiple forms of resource without using extra pack space.

If anyone can improve on this idea, feel free to suggest further elements or new methods. If the idea would not work, please suggest ideas as to why, or ways to adapt.

Thank you,
Moira Thea

This idea sounds useful.

I'd limit the tool belt to carrying items that weight 5 rock less (this would include things like the wood cutting axe and mining hammer, but would eliminate big bulky items like the oil boiler and dye press). The tool belt itself should take up an inventory slot, but not the items in the tool belt (they're hanging from the belt). The tools should be removed from the tool belt and placed in inventory to use them (just like now, when you have to remove tools from storage and place them in inventory to use them). The resourcing tools, such as the mining hammer, should be available to use while hanging from the tool belt, just like an equip bowed is available to use for hunting.

Nice idea.

Another thing to implement with this belt: let it contain a bow and an arrow CASTERS CAN FINALLY HUNT.

Ahem, sorry caps, I needed that.

As a primary staff user, I realized that hunting would be difficult, so I avoided it for a while. However, I wanted to be able to make my own resources. For that reason, I have just started Hunting by equipping a bow and arrow in my third equipment set. It is very slow to switch between sets in tougher zones, and inconvenient, but I'm not sure how else to address the issue other than making an alternate equipment set and using that while hunting. Perhaps hunting is a bonus for those who use bows primarily.

I appreciate the idea of adding the hunting resource to the tool belt concept, but as hunting is a different sort of thing, that one aspect may require more thought or some kind of balance to even it out with the other resources.

If the tool belt were available to all players, and not just those with access to a high-level zone, town, or gold collection, it might be an "equal-opportunity" way to allow those who do use staves primarily to hunt.

However, one question here is whether or not the tool belt should be difficult to get, or easy to get; restricted, or "equal-opportunity".

Originally, I suggested this tool belt idea as an equal-opportunity addition to the game, and I would prefer it to be such, but others may differ in opinion, which is fine.

Lastly, I have heard of the "cookbook" idea from other people, and I also think that would be convenient for players with lots of recipes. However, as with the tool belt concept, the weight of the book and the use of the recipes for crafting or sale should be taken into account and kept manually the same as before, in my opinion.

Thank you to all for your input. Any other input would be appreciated, as well.

Thank you, Flashus, for providing the helpful link about this topic, and clarifying that it has indeed been around for a while. If everyone combines their ideas, perhaps something will end up being added to the game, with enough support. Then again, if the idea has been around for that long, perhaps it won't be implemented, but it can still be discussed.
