A serious concern to New Player Base
I know this has been discussed alot, but I am here to make a solid presentation of a HUGE problem and possibly solutions.
The Catch:
-Glitch, you want new players so you can make more money,
-We want new players so we will have more TC and new blood and an active game.
The Proposition:
-Why don't we work together on getting new players? I know you say that only the hardcore and true play this game, but come on, u make it a little too hard in the beginning.
The Solution:
-More online ads. Tell us, how much does it cost to post an online ad?
-Level 1 pet, given to free players. this pet cannot be sold
-Level 1 gems already in pouch, a heal gem, a damage gem. Also cannot be sold.
Yours Truely

well, in theory Glitch could program a new lv 1 pet into the game, or at the very least give the new players a sewer rat that they could use from the start (by reducing the petmanship requirement of the rat to 1)

Support - or certainly a level 5 pet (to give people something to work towards).
Gems are fairly easy to get (you just need 1 level in relevant general magic, and 1 in the specific), but a level 1 green healling gem would help a lot right from the start.
And yes, they can't be traded, simply sold to the store for a nominal amount of gold.
I started my own alt recently (initially to listen to the princess narrative), and whilst you can make quite a lot of money from bliss SOMETIMES, at others it's pretty slow. I do think it is easier than it was when I started, but I think times have changed. Not every level 1 is an alt of a capped toon, and if you play a level 1 from scratch (no donations or feeding) it can drag a bit in the early stages - certainly trying to get past the ogre with no healing gems!

thanks gibson for the support.
The reason the gems are ALREADY in their pouch is because new players leave before they ever get to use gems.
I recruited 30+ from league of legends, 25 of them quit at the tutorial part where they were killing rats. IT WAS BORING. all they had were escapes. If they had free weak gems it would add more dynamics to the game.

This is a repost from another thread here. http://forums.nodiatis.com/forums/sh...ion#post124393
It would require some programming, but maybe something like the following would help with retention rates:
1) Provide a larger starting area with more things for new players to do before turning them loose on that loooooong walk down TW.
2) Give more starting RT. I don't think the starting RT is enough time to set the hook. A lot of people will be reluctant to give an email address for 3 more hours. Why cut them off just when they are getting started? That's not enough time for them to fork out money for a game. Give them enough RT to play a few days. Or maybe give RT as a reward for beating the first few bosses. Or possibly when RT runs out give 1/2 experience in the first 3-4 zones instead of 1/6.
3) After an hour or two invite them to try all of the mini-games for free. It'll give them something to do and show some of the variety in the game. Even let them use a loaner scaling knife, spindle, saw, etc. Let them try their hand at the forge. Have them make a chest piece and let them keep it. An RPG is about accomplishing something new and getting some sort of experience or reward for it.
4) Do NOT send someone back to Castille if they get killed 2 steps from Stronhad. That's a heck of a long walk for a level 2-3 noob. If that happened to me I'd be so pissed I'd close the browser and never return. If a noob gets killed on TW, send them back 5 steps with a warning that you won't be so nice next time. A bit more decumberance along TW would help also.
5) Noobs don't need clan chat. Use the left window for a noob only window. There are veteran players who have a reputation for helping new players. Let them into the noob window to answer questions.
6) Give 100 gold for beating the dock boss and 300 gold for beating the TW boss. Better yet, give them a taste of AH. Create a noob section in AH and give 100/300 gold "credit" to use in AH. It would be fully stocked with discounted noob gear, not stocked by other players. They could also get the gear without going to the sale location. Of course they would be warned this is a one-time deal.
Bottom line is, make it easier for new players to start out. Give them enough time and variety to set the hook. A lot of browser games give a nice starting package, Nod should too.

Suggested this a long time ago and got flamed for some reason. Totally agree with it though.

I like the idea about gems already in pouch... not only does it add to the "lets stay and try this out " factor, but gems in general take a bit of time to figure out....
also, reduce sewer rat pet to lvl 1 req'mnt would do wonders...
also, to help keep newbs, give them a base set of gold from the start, like.... 300g

The RT issue is one of the biggest. When I first joined I thought "Woo! New game!". After 3 hours "Addicted...and...can't play for any XP/trophy/gold cause of this RT thing? Have to wait for tomorrow?. Um. Ok..but my mind begins to wander....".
Fortunately for you all (ahem chuckle chuckle) I returned the next day. But for about 5 months, I played one day, and then left for a week. Came back to see my passive had gained me some skills and I finally had RT! WOO. Reactivate the addiction.
But for almost the first year, I each time almost left for good.
The RT thing, especially for new players, is a total turnoff.

not really a way to increase it without increasing rrt gains for everyone, daily.
Maybe, increase the starting rrt by a few hours glitch? or increase the amount for activating e-mail etc, or maybe giving something like 2-3 hours rrt free, when they make their first purchases for ie: grinder, accel and first virt purchase.

how about not expanding rt till they hit lvl 5? (new players only)
Also "mentor program" would be great when new players can choose option they available for mentoring and experienced player would get them under his wings.
Once this apprentice buy acceleration or all virts or reach certain level - mentor will be rewarded somehow like 10 days of +10% exp , more gold trophies etc.
While grouped with apprentice both would receive 5% bonus (unique ip only)
There's endless possibilities - just a little imagination...
First impression is most important - lets make that impresion

Yes it is. Everyone I've brought into this game has quit within a day or two because of civil chat. Sure I can tell them to turn it off, or ignore people, or pay no attention to it. They shouldn't have to do any of that. Civil chat should be a place to talk about the game, and get questions answered. It is normally anything but that. People have begged for civil moderation, and Glitchless has said no. So be it.

Bump and support!!
The Rat should be level 1 pet since you have a rare turtle at level 12 and an epic duck.
Many things have been revamped since the beginning of the game but maybe Glitch should revamp the BEGINNING of the game.
Thanks for the consideration

Oh and yeah fully agree with Tj, the civil chat should be for NODIATIS related game play ONLY!! Not what so and so did at their party last night, or talking about real life period, let alone all the foul filter dodging. If it is about anything other then questions about game or looking for groups or just discussion about the game in some way, then it should all be in uncivil where anything can be discussed with no distractions to the new players unless they choose to turn on uncivil and that would be a CHOICE not forced cause mods just don't feel like being around to work hard for a few months to crack down on making sure civil is used like it was intended in the first place.
Nothing worse then seeing someone ask something in civil about the game and getting flamed and teased because others in civil want to be rude and thoughtless. Even if someone is not paying attention to everything like they should and ends up asking in civil, no one has the right (according to the rules anyway) to bully and troll their questions, if someone feels that its a dumb question they should be silent and not answer at all then and let someone else that feels like taking time to answer. The fact this still continues shows that Glitchless is afraid to really push for civil to be what his own rules should be cause if he enforced civil to be only for game play talk, that many would quit and that's the only reason, but then the rules need to be reworded to cow-toe to the ones that continue to go against them so at least it does not make the company look like they don't care when it happens.
Big turn off to new players.

I agree with the flaming and filter dodging in civil, but only talking about the game is pretty boring. Civil has the rules of not talking about certain topics which if peopled followed would be fine enough

Funny, I worked my ass off trying to help keep civil clean and not one of you supported me. In fact, half of you gave me nothing but hate for it. Glitchless isn't going to waste his day every day moderating civil, it's always been up to the players to moderate and it always will be.

I agree Rat should be a level 1 or level 0 pet. I don't play BM, but I've seen more then a few get disgruntled when they found out they couldn't start out with the one piece of equipment that their class is basically NAMED for.
