Lightbulb Crafting idea

I've noticed this and after talking with a few different people, I've got an idea to make Crafting more viable, because no one currently seems to see much value in it.

Maybe if there were some rare master recipes that could drop, something that's maybe "Rare" or even "Epic". That wasn't attainable by any other means. Then suddenly people will be willing to spend time gathering resources, or selling resources, In the hopes that they could get an item that you couldn't just buy in the shop. It would add another layer of game play that doesn't really exist at the moment.

If an epic recipe already requires dust, then maybe there could be new epics that require dust from earlier epics to complete. That would give some function other than just selling your old epics. It would force the player to choose to dismantle their current epic at a certain point and work towards creating a new item, that's maybe a little bit better than the original epic, or just something different.

It would also create an economy for recipes, something which seems to be sorely lacking.

Just a thought.

I must agree, the current crafting system does not inspire me to do any crafting. No value to it at all.

Why would I want to craft an item I can just buy, especially when I have to buy the item first, then destroy it?

In most games I have played with a simular crafting system, i.e. destroy an item to learn how to craft it, the crafted item was slightly better than the bought or found one.

Or if recipes were an item drop for things you could not buy, and were sightly better than what you could buy, I might be motivated to do some crafting.

As it is, I am not wasting any time on crafting that would be better spent elsewhere.

Yea I started Mining, and then I got a rock saw and started making Geodes out of the rock thinking Hey this is cool.

So far so easy. So then I go on the prowl for a GrindStone thinking I can just polish those geodes into some sort of Gem or something else. But it says I need a recipe. Oh ok, so find a Gem, in the store of course since they never drop off MOBs, and dismantle it.

Now I'm at the point that I have to find all these components just to make a copy of the Recipe! Not to mention that after I pay out the rear for all the components on auction and then get the recipe copy I can create a nice Level 5 gem (I hope) from just that and the Geodes I've spent all this time mining (since I can only mine after I fight a battle) but I'm sure it will require some other obscure components that I have no clue were to find and will have to pay even more for. At this point, my time is better spent just to hit up the store and pay the 60 gold for the gem and be done with it.

/rant off

Very very true, crafting system is to overpriced and complex for it's miniscule rewards.

Yes i agree, crafting is pointless on the game. You do so much for so little and you earn nothing for your effort.

How can it be usefull latter in the game?

If it still requires me to have the item first so I can destroy it, and the item crafted is no better than the one I destroyed, it will never be worth it.

Plus the items that will be required will be proportionately expensive as the item level. Maybe even more so cause there will not be many hight leveled characters for a while.

I think the ideal solution is to the get rid of the NPC shop inventory that includes items that are already craftable.

See who doesn't start crafting then.

Most weapons and armors are craftable, so we should empty the shops of most items just to make people craft, weather they want to or not? Not everyone may want to craft, or have the time to spend on it.

In that case, I will go back to playing Muds.

It would seem a better thing just to give crafted items a small bonus.

It need not be much, a little to a stat, slightly faster attack, a higher min dam, anything like that would give some incentive to craft.

I wasn't suggesting that the Armor shops / Weapon shops go away at all. In fact, doing that would put an immediate damper on the overall situation. Then new players have to wait for an item to drop and then dismantle it, given the rarity of drops overall, it would take a month or better for the situation to get regulated.

I do think that by adding in some drop only master recipes, it would finally add some viability to crafting. The thought of dismantling an epic into dust, or dismantling 2 epics for dust to use in the creation of some slick new peice of armor or weapon, that I couldn't just endlessly farm to obtain, would up the odds of people wanting to gather materials and craft.

There's not enough reward, plain and simple. Now there are a few people that can make armor and weapons now, but you don't see many of them. As it stands now, the only things people craft and sell are stones. And there's not but a handful of people making stones that the top 25% of the player base will even use, let alone make.

In this thread, http://forums.nodiatis.com/forums/pl...ing-guide.html

Adamska said that as a free player, crafting is of little use, and you should just level and not worry about it.

So not only is crafting not worth the time and effort, you have to pay for it to be not worth the time and effort.

Well that helps make up my mind weather to bother playing here or not. Back to playing MUD's for me!!!!!

While this is the best RPG browser based game I have found, it still comes nowhere near the depth of a MUD.

Had crafting been a little better designed, it still might have been worth paying for, as I donated to MUD's as well, even though for most of them, it is not needed to play all aspects of the game.

I might check back after a time and see if it has improved any, as it is a new game after all.

Fairwell for now at least.
