Your second premise is also completely wrong. A meleer does not lose half his dps when he puts on a shield. I suggest that you take a look at the bash and the improved bash skills.

from my stand point yes they are.

why??

cause i use a 2h weapon. i cant put a sheild on unless i change my weapon type completly, and therefore throwing out my entire build.

so yeah, i would lose alot more then half my DPS.

Even with 2 handers, you always have the option to switch to a 1 handed weapon in order to equip a shield. Switching from a 2 handed piercer to a 1 handed piercer + shield would not affect your build.


I carry several bows, piercers, quivers, whips and a shield in my inventory as an archer. I switch back and forth depending on the specific need at a given time. I even have a staff for staff walking or for when I redistribute and go caster.


You don't even need to go through that much trouble if you are using an 84 2 handed piercer. You are already talking about a weapon that is faster than the 88 archery set and hits harder than the 88 archery set. In addition, your defensive skills are completely maxed out. Chances are that an archer will not be able to compete with you in the defensive department (3 stats vs 2).

A shield will guarantee victory.

That isn't an entirely true statement, a piercer switching to shield isn't going to have much luck blocking since most don't even have over 150 STR :P
