Default Directional Arrows and Other Bugs

1. Directional arrows are being shown for both HoT and DoT ticks (with the target being shown as the source). This was supposedly fixed in 2014, but going back in my video cache to 2018 it seems that it was not. I then checked someone else's video from 2015 which appears to confirm that this fix was never implemented.

It wasn't noticeable in 1v1 arena (for obvious reasons) but it's quite apparent in 3v3.

2. Directional arrows always show the recipient of any mana or energy change as being the source. If I hit someone while I have a mana theft rune equipped, the change in their mana will be shown as originating from them, rather than from me. This also applies for things like manaburst, where if I cast manaburst on an ally, it shows the directional arrow as if they had cast it instead.

In fact, it looks like several issues noted in this thread are still present:

-HoT Ticks
-Manergy Changes
-Taunted*

Gem descriptions and Prevent* have been fixed.

For slow effects, use the slow % but as a negative.

Just repeat for multiple effects.

DO NOT multiply by 1+slow% to get your new delay. 1*1.4 is not the same as 1/0.6 and your answer will be wrong.

Currently going through all battletext messages. Some, like Taunted were not being specified an origin, but could have been. Adding the origin will allow the client to assign an arrow rather than the erroneous *.

The one deficiency in the * system that we will retain going forward is continuing to add *s to words that could obviously only come from yourself (Arrowrain, Deathflow, etc), thus the * is arguably redundant. It's not harmful and could be argued that the * adds clarity and uniformity regardless of redundancy.

Since effects like "Quaked" will now point to the origin, we can remove the unnecessary "Quake" and similar messages.

Reloading server now to fix the above issue.

The 1. issue you brought up is a client side issue that we need to resolve. We'll remove any directional arrow in the case that the source and target are the same, which should fix the HoT and DoT erroneous arrows. This will require a client update which will remain pending until more important changes are also added to the client to warrant the update.

At the same time, a colour change for heal over time effects in a vein similar to the DD crit change may help differentiate between HoTs and burst heals.
