companion used roses without success

So idk if its a bug or not. Yay confusion. So i caught a companion, went to get a second and it appeared i tried to capture it and it used my roses and failed to capture the lg version. Is this correct? it says on the items it will be consumed on successful use... but it wasnt successful and was still used up?

If nothing be nice if the wording was clearer.

That's working properly. If you use flowers on a companion type that you already have, you may fail to get the LG version of him, but you will have been successful in increasing your odds of getting an LG in the future.

Ok assumed so but wanted clarification.

Also I've had 2 lg companions appear But when they appeared i saw no difference to the regular companion that appeared. Did i just miss the different or is there no difference to lg and non lg when they appear to you?

You can't tell if it'll be LG or not by appearance, no.
