What happened to epics: Good? Bad? or Ugly?

I guess the one good thing is that people will no longer rely on epics as much, but otherwise good points made so far.

Think I'll stick to my 81 non-epics than get crappy accuracy epic 81's

Epics suck now, without the incredible accuracy they are almost worthless.

100% agreed with Sonera - Epic gems are just less consumption standarts.

Is it just me, or are some of the epics just not worth it?
They are sometimes beat in just about every catagory by vendor trash uncommon items..The new epic gems, just suck.....

The biggest problem with epic gems is this:
1. Say for example u are an angel (I am one) and use only white DDs and DoTs. The chance of anyone getting a white DD/DoT lvl 65 onwards as a drop is low. Add to the fact that my gem pouch can slot 50 gems and each gem costs me 200k to buy from others. I basically spend 200k for 1/50 chance of using it in battle.

2. Or I can buy 4 like gems (fat chance of finding four of them), and spend 800k for 1/25 chance.

3. During that time, I notice that the damage is not any better than my normal DD gems, because gems do a 20-160 damage (for example) and thus, on top of my 1/50 chance to draw that gem, I also have a 1/2 chance of doing crap damage. Which means my chance of doing a decent damage using an epic gem during combat becomes 1/100.

It's just not worth it. I rather save my 200k gold and buy epic 78 armour.

And besides, there are some nutcases trying to sell epic gems for 400k.

On my angel I use the 79 epic recastable in the first slot. Over the whole length of a fight it means that I do more damage for less energy. A very nice bonus if you ask me. I paid 700k for it on the AH, which was prolly a dumb move. Was just willing to have it and was afraid given it's level that it would be a one chance.

The only epic gems i plan to use on my caster are aura's, and replace current gems with their epic equivalent if i find them or can buy them for cheap.

On my melee fighters i will start to use epic dot's, even lower levels. I have the feeling it's finally worth it now to cast damage gems with my fighters.

So all in all - sorry - i disagree with my fellow casters. I think the epic gems rock.

For the 'good' accuracy patch. The need to equip epic weapons is lowered with this patch. Which is a shame is this patch screws certain builds out of the blue.

Oh, i'm not saying that epic gems don't rock. But I don't have enough gold to make that 1/50 chance worthwhile...

Of course, I wish to have a gem pouch filled with epic white gems....but then, I can't pay the prices for it...And anyone who loots high level white gems will go straight to you or Hopilus to sell them...

i agree with ives 100%. I think epic gems are terrible. or course if you are using the high end ones they are great because the mana/energy costs difference is alot more but the lvl 50 and below are not much better then the non epics +6 lvls.

example lvl 30 epic gem is = to lvl 36 non epic gem
pretty much the same damage if not more on the non epic and a small bit of mana or energy cost discount on the epic. Price difference 100k on the epic vs 8k on the non epic.

if your pockets are endless and 700k is pocket change for you then by all means yes epic gems are great. otherwise for the other 99% of nod i think they are crap.
