Top 10 teams fight all the time with one or more afk players. And a top 10 team isn't too likely to get beaten by someone with a low enough rating to cost the top 10 team 20 rating points with one afk member. 10 rating points maybe, but 20, very doubtful.

Sure, it's possible someone could time out between the time we enter the queue and the battle, but then their face should show they are no longer connected on my buddy's list, and I can take us out of queue. Worst harm done would be one loss. And if they are showing as disconnected, they should leave group which automatically removes us from queue.

Just tested it with one of the grandkid's accounts. Logged it on, grouped it, then closed the browser window. After around 10 seconds or so, the status changed to logged off, and it left the group.

This shouldn't be a problem for arena.

I tested this as well you DO stay logged in. TJ, are you sure you remembered to set the /afk toggle? also is it possible this only affects paid toons since they are the only ones that would use the Auction house?

Un paid char definitely stay logged on. I just tested this with a lvl 1 char.

Mine shows logged in also. If it doesn't work for some people maybe try clearing cache and reload. Also maybe try going ak then afk.


I grouped with my alt who was outside of town.

Closed tab for alt and waited several minutes.

Opened trade with alt which would normally disconnect the toon if it didn't already time out. Trade window stayed open indefinitely.

Alt still showed in buddy list and group.

Alt still showed on map outside of town. (meaning they can be PKed???)

Stuff from alt still showed in AH.

Inspection showed all stats.

Kicked alt from group and it showed leaving group as normal.

Offered duel and it worked normally saying "duel offered".

Bought from alt on ah.

Relogged alt

It did not show a relog in clan.

The offer for duel showed as soon as logged.

AH sale showed in yellow as normal.

I still don't see this causing an arena problem. Perhaps for one fight, but even that possibility is eliminated if the group members are talking to each other occasionally. The worst that would happen is that a player disconnects a few seconds before an arena battle begins. In that, the fight might have started anyway. I've certainly played arena battles when one or more of partners got disconnected during the battle; and they've played when I got disconnected during the battle. It happens.

If what the rest of you are saying is true (even though it conflicts with my results, I'll go with the majority and presume you're correct), I like this. My partner gets disconnected all the time. In the past, that meant if he didn't log back in fairly quickly, I had to look for a new group. Then when he did log back in, he wanted back in group. Now, if what you are saying is correct, he stays in group. That makes things easy for both of us.

Be interesting to see what happens during a server reset if we log back in the next morning and are auto grouped. If so, I like it even more.

If this really, really bothers you because of it's potential impact on the arena, then just have all your teammates turn afk status off while you are in the queue. Then things go back to working the way they always have; you get disconnected, you leave group, team leaves queue.

Then, if you like the benefits of this patch, turn afk status back on when you are done with arena.

We'll change it so that if you turn off your browser you'll leave the arena queue after 60 seconds. We'll also change it so buddies appear offline that are afk and disconnected but online for trading.

Ok, so im not 100% sure, but I am pretty sure there is a new bug/glitch with the afk trade system involving group chat. If not, then there is a different glitch of some-sort that I don't even know what triggered it.

So what happened was that I was in a group with a friend... I went afk & DND and went to sleep for 6 hours... came back, and my friend was still logged, but not on buddies list. I come out of DND and afk, and invite another friend looking for a solo group. Try to talk to him in chat, and while he could see my chat... I could not see my own chat. He then talked to me in group chat, I could see his, but he could not see his own chat.

I tried to rejoin group, and that did not help.

Just thought I would post in this thread since I feel its most likely related to the new update. I can move or re-post in the bug forum if it pleases everyone.

There's an issue with the server filtering messages due to it thinking you're timing out but our timeout threshold is too low. We'll be fixing it with the next reload.
